Zack Snyder Teams With Netflix for Zombie Flick Army of the Dead
Zack Snyder returns to his roots - zombies - in a big-budget zombie heist movie for Netflix. Prepare yourself.
The last time Zack Snyder stepped behind the camera to direct did not have the best results: Justice League. When a family tragedy hit the director, he took time off from directing duties but is now returning, following a long list of high-profile directors and stars who decide to work with Netflix.
Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead Coming Soon to Netflix
Army of the Dead, a zombie horror thriller that features a heist, has Zack Snyder as director, as well as a producer with his wife Deborah Snyder through their production company, Stone Quarry. Joby Harold wrote the screenplay for Army of the Dead based on a story Zack Snyder came up with. The Netflix-released movie will feature a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas and a man assembling a team of mercenaries to pull off the greatest heist ever in the middle of the quarantined zone.
Warner Bros. initially had Army of the Dead (since 2007); Netflix will now be putting a great deal of money into the zombie-action-heist picture – the budget is estimated to go as high as $90 million, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Army of the Dead starts shooting in Summer 2019. And for Zack Snyder, it’s the first time he will have full control over the finished product.
“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter.
Zack Snyder and Zombies Have History
Zack Snyder and zombies go way back: His first feature was Dawn of the Dead in 2004. Since then, he has helmed such big budget productions as 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, and a handful of DC superhero movies, including Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
And what Zack Snyder has planned for Army of the Dead sounds fantastic.
“…This is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this],” he says.
A release date for the Zack Snyder-Netflix Army of the Dead has not been released.
