Genre(s): War, Action
What could have been an epic story about fighting for one’s survival against oppression and evil is instead a melodramatic bore. As a viewer you root for the characters in Defiance but not because of what is happening on screen; it stems from your own knowledge of history and what you know happened to many. Defiance moves along incredibly slow and is ripe with familial quarrels and angst leaving the action by the wayside and lacking in excitement.
There is no flair to the action in Defiance. When it does occur it is brief and tiresome. Guns being shot, a bomb being dropped here and there, and some moderate hand-to-hand combat fails to enthrall or excite.
