Film Review
The film is a great experience for men and women alike. It is full of laughs and gags that do not go to the overly extreme or come across as contrived. All of the characters are amusing and the actual story is well thought out and poignant. For anyone who has ever experienced the ups and downs of friendships and relationships this movie will surely awaken something inside of you, and make you laugh out loud in the process.
Everyone in the film is phenomenal with their timing and how they deliver each and every line. Paul Rudd (Peter) steals the film though. His portrayal of a man desperate to find friendship could have come across as pathetic but he creates a character that you cannot help but love and root for along his journey. He is fabulous in his awkwardness; always missing the mark over and over again in social situations. He is at once sweet, charming, funny and distressed. Rudd has made Peter a man we all would want to know.
Since this film is essentially about the relationship between two men it is only right that the two main characters chemistry must be reviewed. Paul Rudd (Peter) and Jason Segel (Sydney) are superb on screen together. A modern day odd couple they compliment each other in a manner seldom seen on screen. They are absolutely a perfect match, in all the ways opposites attract. It is from their interaction and the comfortableness you feel radiating off the screen from both of them that makes this film so enjoyable to watch. Their pairing truly makes the film, and all of the other characters simply complete it.
The film is undeniably funny; it seems impossible to say otherwise. The uniqueness of the comedy is that it comes from a place that is positioned in reality. Moments occur throughout that take you by surprise but they are so close to what could, and possibly has, happened in your own life that it only intensifies the humor. There is comedy to be found in every scene, every relationship, and practically every line of the script if you listen closely enough.
