Aliens in the Attic

By Kathryn Schroeder
Released: July 31, 2009
Production
This is purely a fun and entertaining movie, for kids and adults alike. It does not have an overabundance of violence and it never attempts to be overly serious - they are battling miniature aliens after all. It is for the most part lighthearted while showing the strength and perseverance children and teens may possess when needed.
Special Effects
The blending of live action and CG animated aliens is remarkably done throughout the film. The dimension and depth of the aliens makes them appear more real than imagined with a wide range of small details given to each individually. They come across as menacing while at the same time cute and playful, given they are roughly 2 feet tall, if that. The most delightful is the four armed Rocky. As the good hearted alien he is sweet, adorable, and something you would want to take home with as a pet. This is only achieved by the believability the effects have for the duration of the movie, giving the aliens a realistic approach.
Comedy Factor
The comedy of the movie is on the quieter side. One should not expect to be laughing out loud throughout but you can expect to have a smile on your face for most of the film. It just makes you feel good inside, with some decent laughs thrown in from time to time.
