Film Review
The film supplies great moments of action. It is a moderate thrill ride throughout but tends to focus greatly on the love story angle, which takes you away from the point of the film: the action and effects. As for a story, it is practically nonexistent. It takes to long to find out what the actual plot of the film is and when you do you find it, it is nothing new with no great spin.
The film is full of special effects that are done very well and will not disappoint. It has car crashes and explosions that look incredibly real and happen when you least expect them. The ending is what makes the entire film though and the special effects employed. The film ends with a bang that is sure to please those who love special effects at there best.
Jason Statham returns in this third installment and gives you exactly what you expect from the character. He is suave, cool, calm and funny; not to mention sexy all around. There is nothing exceptionally great about his performance but it is not lacking for what he is expected to achieve. He is as always great with his fighting abilities and movement on screen.
What brings this film down is the acting on the part of Natalya Rudakova as Valentina. Frankly, it is painful to watch her on screen. Her delivery of lines is horrendous and she is incapable of keeping time when dialogue is concerned, or show any sort of real emotion. The only thing she has going for her is that she is attractive, but that is quickly lost on the audience once she opens her mouth to speak.
The timing of the action sequences is excellent. They are not overly long or to short, but exactly the right length to get you excited and then end with you wanting more. The actual stunts and fight sequences may not be "new" but they are still thoroughly entertaining. What is done with the car, outside of the typical car chase, is fabulous. A favorite, the balancing on two wheels, on the same side of the car no less, as it passes between two semi trucks. It is visually stunning.
This film gives new meaning to the use of a suit jacket and shirt, all for the better.
