Production
If you are looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy that will make you smile and feel good walking out of the theatre this film delivers. The film has a great deal of personality and offers the viewer laughs, a possible cry, and may even make you cheer.
Chemistry
As the two romantic leads, Lucy and Ted, Zellweger and Connick Jr. succeed as a couple who has the antagonistic relationship that blossoms into more. They are delightful to watch on screen together and playful in their antics. The relationship that builds between them is believable and not overwraught with sentimentality or exaggerated romanticism. It comes across as a more realistic love affair but still holds true to movie magic.
Comedy Factor
A great majority of the film's comedy stems from the small town mentality and making it the butt of the jokes, along with the 'fish out of water' scenario. The way the people interact with one another and how they react towards the arrival of an outsider supplies a great many funny scenes and situations. It is fun to watch and surely gives you the ability to laugh out loud for a variety of reasons.
